Wishart hands out certificates at EsolPerth graduation ceremony
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, attended EsolPerth on Wednesday 26 July to present students with certificates after they completed an intensive 4-week English language course. 60 students from 18 countries completed the course, with around half being Ukrainian refugees. Established in 2015, EsolPerth is a charity that provides English language teaching and other support to ethnic minorities in the area.
The ceremony came after EsolPerth recently received £85,000 from the National Lottery Fund to expand their support for refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers through formal ESOL lessons for adults, afterschool support and play clubs for children. The project will work with 550 people and 32 volunteers over 2 years of funding.
Commenting, Mr Wishart said:
“It was a real pleasure to attend EsolPerth’s graduation ceremony and present students with their hard-earned English language certificates. Over 60 people from all over the world completed the course, and I was delighted to hear that they are enjoying life in Perthshire.
“It is also fantastic news that EsolPerth have received such a large grant from the National Lottery Fund, which will allow them to expand on the invaluable services they provide for ethnic minorities in the area.”
