Perthshire Politicians Commend Local Business on Prestigious Accolade
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, and John Swinney, MSP for Perthshire North, have commended a local businessowner on receiving a recognition in the esteemed Countryside Alliance Awards.
Dow’s Deli, in Aberfeldy, was chosen as ‘Highly Commended’ in the Village Shop / Post Office category. The delicatessen has been a popular fixture in the local community since being established almost 20 years ago in 2003 by owner Stephen Dow. It was also involved with Feldy-Roo, which delivered 40,000 meals to housebound pensioners in Highland Perthshire during the pandemic.
The awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food & farming, enterprise and heritage through small hard-working businesses. Dubbed the ‘Rural Oscars’, theyvare now in their sixteenth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win.
There were thousands of nominations for each of the five categories, with the Taybank and The Scottish Deli, both in Dunkeld, also making it as finalists.
Commenting, Mr Wishart said:
“I recently visited Dow’s Deli to congratulate Stephen on his success in the Countryside Alliance Awards. Stephen has been provided an excellent service to the local community for almost 20 years.
“This can be exemplified by his tireless efforts to feed vulnerable households in Highland Perthshire during the heights of the pandemic. It is fantastic to see his work being recognised through this prestigious accolade.”
Also commenting, Mr Swinney said:
“This is an excellent achievement and speaks to the high-quality produce on offer at Dow’s Deli.
“I’d like to extend my warmest wishes to the team at Dow’s, and to congratulate them on such a brilliant result.”
