Wishart responds to announcement that Stanley Post Office will remain closed

Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, has responded to the recent announcement that Stanley Post Office will remain closed as management have not been able to resolve a retailing issue that forced it to shut its doors last year. The full announcement can be found, here.

Commenting, Mr Wishart said:

“This is the latest blow in what has been a spate of post office closures across Perthshire over the past few years.

“Last year’s closure of Stanley Post Office was only ever meant to be temporary, and local residents will rightly be feeling betrayed by the announcement that it is to remain closed indefinitely.

“Post offices are a lifeline to rural communities now more than ever, as the cost-of-living crisis deepens and the number of bank branches continues to plummet.

“Everybody involved therefore must work collectively in order to get this vital facility reopened as soon as possible.”
