Wishart attends Pakistan flood relief fundraising dinner in Perth
On 14 September, Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, attended a fundraising dinner at Mamzil restaurant in Perth, to raise funds for the recent devastating floods in Pakistan. In August, Pakistan declared a state of emergency when around one-third of the country became submerged under water, affecting 33 million people. It has been estimated that the floods have led to the loss of $30 billion so far.
In response, Manzil restaurant held a fundraising dinner on 14 September which raised over £6,000.
Commenting, Mr Wishart said:
“It was a privilege to attend the charitable dinner at Manzil to raise funds for disaster relief in Pakistan following the last month’s devastating floods.
“The Perth South Asian community may be small, but it is big-hearted and generous, attested by the fantastic £6,000 raised from the event. In times of tragedies, the people of Perthshire never fail to show their support and solidarity, and this was yet another example.
“My thoughts are firmly with those affected by the floods. Governments and communities must now come together to help Pakistan recover as quickly as possible during their hour of need.”
