WISHART URGES GROUPS TO APPLY FOR NEXT ROUND OF PERTH HARBOUR COMMUNITY FUND

Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, is encouraging local organisations to apply for the Perth Harbour Community Fund, which opens today (1 February 2022). Organisations can apply for an award of up to £1,000.

Created to benefit the lives of people living in Perth and Kinross, the Fund was launched in 2021 and made eight awards to groups tackling poverty, stigma and shame, social inclusion, health and wellbeing. It also supported organisations that help people to become self-dependent and resilient.

The Perth Harbour Community Fund is looking to support non-profit organisations who use the River Tay to benefit the lives of the people they engage with. Including, but not limited to:

  • Organisations who use the river for recreation and sport.
  • Organisations who use the river for education and learning.
  • Organisations who use the rivers surroundings and walkways.
  • Organisations who commit to the environmental upkeep of the river.

Commenting, Mr Wishart said:

“The Perth Harbour Community Fund is a fantastic initiative which last year made a real difference to communities across Perth and Kinross. Beneficiaries included The Buttons and Bows Baby Bank, Letham4All SCIO and The Perth Strathtay Harriers. This year, they will continue this trajectory by helping even more organisations, and I encourage all those eligible to apply.

“The River Tay is of huge importance to communities across my constituency and to Scotland as a whole, so I welcome the theme of this year’s initiative wholeheartedly.”

Also commenting, Cameron MacPhail, Head of Ports and Harbours for Perth Harbour operators David MacBrayne Limited (DML) said:

“The Perth Harbour Community Fund allows us to connect with our community in a unique and impactful manner. We are pleased to have supported eight organisations last year and hope to build on the Funds success this year by supporting groups who use the River Tay and its wonderful surroundings.”
