WISHART WELCOMES PLANS FOR PERTH RAIL ELECTRIFICATION
Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, has welcomed the inclusion of plans to remodel Perth station and electrification of railway lines serving Perth in a new report published this week. The plans are included in Network Rail’s Scotland Route Study – a long term plan looking at how Scotland’s railway could evolve over the next three decades.
Mr Wishart said:
“Rail travel is an increasingly important part of Scotland’s transport mix. I understand, for example, that passenger numbers have doubled in the last two decades with over 96million journeys made on the network in the last year.
“Perth’s position, at the heart of Scotland, makes the Fair City an important hub so I am pleased to see that within Network Rail’s forward planning for the coming years there are proposals to improve and upgrade the rail infrastructure serving Perth, including electrification of the line.”
