Perth and North Perthshire MP, Pete Wishart has further criticised Smart Parking for providing him with contemptuous replies to his representations on constituents’ concerns about their car parks in Perth.
Following his complaint to the parking regulator that the company were failing to engage with the complaints he was raising with them, Mr Wishart received a collection of letters from Smart Parking each with the same two lines of text.
Speaking after receiving the collection of letters, Mr Wishart said:
“I have been attempting to raise my constituents’ concerns and complaints with Smart Parking for several months. Until this week, I had received no replies about any specific constituent cases. Then this pile of two line standard replies arrived in my office.
“Smart Parking’s own regulator, the British Parking Association, had expressed disappointment about their lack of engagement with Perthshire politicians following them raising constituent cases. The regulator then encouraged the company to be more proactive. I don’t think this is what they had in mind.
“As we are approaching Christmas and as many more shoppers will be heading into Perth, I am disappointed to see them still behaving in this way. In contrast, Perth and Kinross Council have just announced that they will once again operate the ‘Free after 2’ scheme in all council car parks in Perth city centre and throughout the whole of Perth and Kinross. This means that on Thursdays and Fridays from the 19th November 2015 until 29th January 2016 parking is free after 2pm in council run car parks.
“I would encourage my constituents to make use of the ‘Free after 2’ scheme and to seriously consider the risks before parking in a Smart Parking run facility.”
