The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire presented an Investor in Young People Award to SCYD (Strathmore Centre for Youth Development) at the opening of their new premises at the Wellmeadow in Blairgowrie on Friday 12 June at 12.15pm.
Speaking ahead of the event Mr Wishart said:
“Many congratulations to the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development and everyone involved in the project since it began. This is a well-deserved recognition of the great work they do and the positive impact that it has had on our young people and the communities of which they are a part.
“I wish SCYD all the very best for the future which I have no doubt holds the prospect of continued success.”
Maureen McGinn, Chair, Big Lottery Fund Scotland, said:
“This project, run by young people, for young people, shows just what can be achieved when a local community comes together around a place or space which matters to them. The Strathmore Centre for Youth Development is one of many success stories from our Community Spaces programme and it is the result of much hard work and dedication from those young people involved over recent years. By working together they have carefully identified the services needed for their community and I am delighted that their hard work has now come to fruition.”
Lloyd Girling, Chair, Board of Trustees, SCYD, said:
“As a young person led organisation this award of investors in young people is a fitting recognition of the significant contribution young people have made to their respective communities over the past 10 years and will continue to do so into the future. SCYD is proud of the citizenship its young people have demonstrated giving them confidence and a sense of personal responsibility as young citizens of Strathmore."
