WISHART HIGHLIGHTS A9 SAFETY AT LAST SCOTTISH QUESTIONS SESSION

Published date : 25 February, 2015

CALLS ON P&K LIB DEMS TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM “RECKLESS AND IRRESPONSIBLE CAMPAIGN”

The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament Perth & North Perthshire South, raised the issue of average speed cameras on the A9 during Scottish Questions in the House of Commons today (Wednesday) and reiterated his call for Danny Alexander MP to bring an end to his “reckless and irresponsible campaign” against this important and effective road safety measure..

Speaking afterwards, Mr Wishart said:

“The average speed cameras on the A9 are proving to be an extremely effective road safety measure with the official statistics being borne out by the testimony of roads users who have been contacting me to say they feel safer and can see a positive impact on the driving behaviour of others.

“So I was pleased to be able to take the opportunity of the last Scottish Questions of this Parliament to raise the issue and ask the Minister to tell his colleague Danny Alexander to bring a halt to his reckless and irresponsible campaign against the cameras.

“I note that Mr Alexander’s campaign has been supported by his fellow Liberal Democrats on Highland Council.  I hope that Lib Dem councillors and activists in Perth & Kinross will disassociate themselves from their Highland colleagues and pledge their backing for this important step forward in road safety on the A9.”
