The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire is urging local folk to get behind a bid to help “Lady’s Tree” at Loch of the Lowes secure the prestigious title of European Tree of the Year 2015.
Speaking today (Monday) Mr Wishart said:
“At the end of last year, Lady’s Tree was named the inaugural Scottish Tree of the Year, and voting has now opened for the even more prestigious title of European Tree of the Year 2015.
“The online vote runs until the 28th of February, so there is only giving us only a very short window to try and secure this much coveted prize!
“There will be strong competition from other countries but the home of our grand old bird is watched annually by over 1 million people from nearly 200 countries across the globe so if everyone who shows an interest in Lady’s progress each year casts a vote then we can be in with a shout.
“Over the years, Lady’s presence at Loch of the Lowes has made a great contribution to tourism in Perthshire and participation in this competition provides a golden opportunity to attract more visitors."
