The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, has welcomed news that Scottish ski centres – including Glenshee in his constituency - are to invest £5.5m to upgrade their facilities.
Glenshee will have its chair lifts replaced at a cost of £2.47million with Highland and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise providing 75% of the funding and the rest coming from the ski centres themselves.
Speaking today (Tuesday) Mr Wishart said:
“With snow sports bringing an estimated £30million per year and supporting over 600 jobs skiing and boarding are an important part of the rural economy and I am delighted to welcome this major investment.
“The slopes of the Perthshire hills are a real draw for visitors and investing in the infrastructure which improves the visitor experience and supports this important sector of the tourism industry is good business.”
