WISHART WELCOMES AWARD OF ‘LIVING WAGE CONTRACT’ TO SSE
PERTH-BASED COMPANY SHOWING A “POSITIVE LEAD” TO INDUSTRY
The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire has welcomed the news that Perth-based power firm SSE has been awarded Scotland’s largest ever ‘living wage contract’.
Mr Wishart said:
“I am extremely pleased to see this coming together of the Scottish Government’s determination to seeing a Living Wage paid for those employed to undertake public contracts and Perth-bases SSE’s commitment to be a living wage employer with the awarding of what is thought to be Scotland's largest living wage contract.
“SSE is the only energy supplier in the UK to be a living wage employer, guaranteeing that all its staff receive at least the minimum wage.
“The company is a major employer in my constituency and I am delighted that they are showing such a positive lead to the rest of their industry and I trust that others will see the benefits that can come from such an approach and will follow SSE’s example.”
