Perthshire North MSP, Mr John Swinney, and Perth and North Perthshire MP, Mr Pete Wishart, have celebrated a fantastic result for St Johnstone in the Europa League tie against Rosenborg.
Underdogs after the draw, St Johnstone have gone on to confound the pundits with a win in Norway and a great result tonight here at McDiarmid.
Commenting on the match John Swinney said:
“The dash back from Shetland to see the game was really worth it! The atmosphere in McDiarmid Park was superb and the fans were definitely a “twelfth man” tonight.
“The people of Perthshire can be truly proud to have such a great team progressing through to the next round of the Europa League.
“I know that there were a number of people here tonight who were at their first Saints match and I hope that they will continue to support the team in the forthcoming league campaign.”
Pete Wishart added:
"Tonight’s game was really outstanding. St Johnstone showed real grit and determination to ensure that they progress in the tournament.
“Last Thursday’s result, with Saints chalking up their first away win in Europe, set up a cracking home tie at McDiarmid.
“The bumper crowd has been amazing and really raised the roof of all four stands.
“Tommy Wright has taken on the mantle left by Steve Lomas and I know that he will continue to be a great servant for the club.
“All the best to Saints for further progress in the tournament.”
