The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire has highlighted the launch of the People’s Millions programme, a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and ITV in which the public get a chance to vote for the community projects they want to receive funding.
Mr Wishart said:
“The People’s Millions represents an opportunity for 76 projects to receive up to £50,000 to inspire involve and improve their local community. Through ITV coverage they want to encourage local charities and community groups to apply for BIG grants and raise awareness of National Lottery funding.
“Each night for a week in November, those who make the best applications will battle it out on prime time ITV regional news for the public vote. Whether or not they succeed, the competition represents a great opportunity to mobilise support and publicity behind a local cause.
“Perthshire groups have done well in the past in accessing lottery funding and I am sure that are plenty of ideas out there for much needed projects which would be strong contenders for this latest scheme.
“All groups in my constituency who are interested need to do is fill out the simple entry form online at www.peoplesmillions.org.uk or contact the Big Advice Line on 0845 0 10 11 12. The deadline for applications is 13 May 2013.
“Having received lottery funding in the past is neither a requirement or an impediment and to date approximately half of all groups entering the competition have been funded by BIG before and half have not.
“I am sure if any local project does get selected, the whole of Perthshire will swing behind them and ensure maximum support for their bid".
