Commenting on the publication of the latest unemployment figures published today (Wednesday) Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire welcomed the fact that Perthshire remains well below the national average but stressed that unemployment is still a major concern.
Mr Wishart said:
“With the publication today of the most recent unemployment figures I am pleased that in Perthshire we remain well below the national average with an unemployment rate of 3.7 per cent as compared with the Scottish average of 7.9 per cent.
“Unemployment remains a major concern but I am encouraged that Perthshire is one of the fastest growing parts of Scotland and hopefully there will be more employment opportunities in the months ahead.
“While Parliament has been in recess over the summer, I have been visiting local businesses, learning of their concerns and offering support.
“Osborne's austerity is not working and, while I congratulate the Scottish Government on the work it has done in keeping the Scottish unemployment rate below that of the UK as a whole, there is a lot more that could be done if we only had the powers in our hands to take the economic decisions that would truly turn Scotland's economy around.”
