The Scottish National Party’s Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire gave the welcome speech at the opening of the Living Balance event held at Perth Race Course today (Friday).
Speaking following the event, Mr Wishart said:
“The Living Balance Programme is a fantastic collabarative project to be delivered by Perth YMCA which aims to target and support groups of young people who face challenges in progressing to a stable independent life style.
“This will ensure that young people with particular needs will be offered intensive support to help equip them better for life after school through intensive personal and social development opportunities over a six month period.
“Living Balance is the only project supported by the UK Government’s social impact bonds scheme, an innovative and new approach to encourage private investors to support charities and social enterprises. The launch in Perth is the first UK launch out of only 6 in the UK.
“I am absolutely delighted that Perth and Kinross YMCA have been chosen to deliver this project. The YMCA have the skill, the enthusiasm and the networks to ensure the this project is successful.
“It can be all too easy for young people, perhaps struggling in school or having left with no great hope of or interest in achieving a job or further education, to be overlooked. Projects like Living Balance can reach out to them and give them the support and opportunities that can help them become happier, productive members of society.”
“I wish everyone involved in Living Balance every success in achieving and surpassing their ambitions.”
