Perth parliamentarians have welcomed two substantial grants from the Big Lottery Fund to schools in the Fair City. Perth Academy has received a £10,000 Awards for All grant from Big Lottery Fund which will be used to develop an unused area of their school grounds to become a gardening and environmental activity area. The new play space will also accommodate a stage and seating area helping the school and the wider community engage in a range of extracurricular activities including musical performances and dramatic productions. Perth Grammar School has been successful in applying to Big Lottery Fund for a £80,745 Community Spaces Scotland grant. The school is seeking funding to build a functional and versatile climbing wall within the games hall, which would also be benefit to the local community. Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, welcomed the news saying: “These are really significant sums of money for projects that will help bring forward ambitious projects that will benefit both schools and the local communities they serve.” Mr Pete Wishart MP, Member of Parliament for Perth & North Perthshire, added: “This is great news which I have no doubt will be warmly welcomed by all associated with the Academy, the Grammar School and the wider Perth community.” Mr John Swinney MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire North, concluded: “This is an excellent boost to both local schools here in Perth and will help them realise their ambitious plans”
